All my amps have very low output impedence. I think the 300Bs are the highest at 2 Ohms. The others are .8 and .4. This gives them a fairly high DF, I think.
The A7s sounding pretty good now with that N1285-8A crossover in it. The HF is a bit hot so attenuation is required to smooth them out, but even with just the L-pad cranked down, I could live with them as is. Of course, if they could be better...
got a schematic? what did you land on there, is that the Hiraga design?

Yep, I went with a Hiraga hybrid. I'm hooking this one up today and I'll see what it sounds like.
Wow, Wow, WOW!! What a difference!
Got the first one hooked up and she's singing. I left the 802 connected at first. What is interesting is that compared to the other speaker with the N1285 in it, the overall sound is louder with the Hiraga. There is certainly more bass, but there is more of everything. The bass and highs are more balanced. Even after installing the 288 the shout is gone. It is very smooth. But I was expecting the highs to be attenuated to the point that I would need more volume to make up the difference. Compared to the N1285, that is not the case. The Hiraga speaker sounds at least 3dB louder. But not an "in your face" loud. OK, a little in your face, but that's what you would expect from an Altec CD. But it's not abrasive at all. And I can really hear the 515B now.
Gotta go build the other one...

cool! I wish I could hear them as well!
I really love those horn boxes. That semicircular horn support is just so elegant.

could ya build me acouple as well..while your at it?

Well...a couple days of listening and I think I'm in love. Of course no speaker system is perfect, but I'm trying hard to find something I don't like and I'm falling short. Even at the "it's 6AM and the kids are sleeping" volume level the sound just presents. The entire frequency range is there and remember, I do not have an EQ or any tone controls. Absolutely effortless sound.
FWIW, I had one 288 and one 802 working simultaneously and I really couldn't hear any loss of high extension in the 288. Probably my ears. The 288s are definitely da bomb.
And I should add, the 805 tar-filled is a treat compared to the MRII564s. With the MRs I could definitely hear the fiberglass. The 805s are sonically inert as far as I can hear.
I guess the next test is to bring them outside and pump some wattage through them.

Alan,
It's really nice to see how your A5's have come along ( somewhat reminds me of Panos saga ) .
To the best of my recollection, you're the only poster ( that I can remember ) who has built up this unique filter ( though I'm sure it's really a memory gap on my part ) .
